On the way to a recent Loving Grace Ministries retreat, I had a conversation with a dear "brother in the Lord", who is also involved with Loving Grace Ministries. At one point, he was talking about how he frequently goes into the City, and is struck at the thought that there are so very many people; and each one of them (each one of us) basically represents a whole world of experiences. It became a bit mind-boggling to think that with all the billions of people on this planet, each one being so intricately complex, somehow God is able to keep every hair on each one's head numbered and accounted for. He is able to work out the events in all of our lives for our "best", and somehow weave together all of our lives, in order to accomplish His purposes. As Romans 8:28 so aptly puts it: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
Sort of reminds me of the feeling of awe when you look up into a moonless night sky, especially when you're out of the city lights, looking at the billions of stars, and realize that all you really are is a little SPECK in the cosmos. Kind of puts life in perspective sometimes. Puts us in our place a LITTLE! God is HUGE, and we really have NO idea...
Now, entering this retreat, I was burdened with some pretty pressing needs and concerns. Sure, I had officially entrusted them into His hands, but nonetheless, they tended to stir up in me the "fear of the unknown". I wasn't sure what the future held, or how that would impact things in my life... I really "needed" the word that was then spoken to both of our hearts: Are we trying to get God to fit His purposes into OUR plans for our lives, or are we trying to align our lives to fit into HIS plan?
There's something strangely comforting in knowing that my little life (and yours as well) can safely be laid down into His hands, to be used for His purpose... All the while knowing that He will lead, guide and protect, so that His will and purpose WILL BE accomplished. A very pleasant place of rest, trust and submission... And in my life it's been possible to get to that place of trust only because of His repeated demonstrations of love and faithfulness toward me. I hope and pray He'll bring you to that place of rest today, even now...
